Digital printing is the process of directly applying toner or ink to a surface, most commonly paper or cardboard.
There are two main principles of ink supply in digital devices: inkjet and laser (electrographic).
In electrography, when toner particles hit the charged areas of the surface of the photo-semiconductor layer, they are transferred to the printed material (or to an intermediate carrier in the form of a cylinder or tape) using a corona charge. The toner is fixed by melting when the paper with the toner is heated.
When using inkjet devices, the paint falls on the material in the form of droplets and solidifies. In this case, the paint can be supplied continuously or with dosing (“drop-on-demand”). When to Use Digital Printing Urgent printing is the main area of application for digital solutions.
You will need digital printing if you need to order business printing in a small edition for an event or for special guests (catalogs, invitations, booklets, flyers or other handouts). Personalization options make each printed copy stand out, so event guests won't mix up each other's handouts.
Also, digital printing is in demand in the case of test printing of packaging: on the printed product, you can immediately see all the obvious flaws, quickly make changes to the layout, and then print the entire required run.
Also, digital printing is more appropriate in terms of cost for short and medium runs. But if you need a large print run, then it will be more profitable to choose an offset printing method.
How to order digital printing If you have decided on the type of product, layout, when preparing it for digital printing, specify the main parameters in the order: type of product - it can be a business card, flyer or even a catalog; format - from 50x90 mm for a business card to 320x450 mm (SRA3) for a poster; circulation - from 1 copy; colors - black and white on one (1+0) or two sides (1+1), color on one (4+0) or two (4+4) sides; urgency - the faster the order is needed, the more expensive the order can cost with digital printing.
